Mrs. Maria B. Schulz was born February 24, 1896 in the St. John Lutheran Parsonage four miles north of Boyden. Her father, the Reverend August Baetke was pastor of the congregation at that time. The mother of Mrs. Schulz was Tjode Frazen. After her elementary education in the St. John Say School of Red Wing, Minnesota, and also the Wartburg Normal College of Waverly, Iowa, from which she graduated in 1918. She taught in a Christian Day School at Parkston for several years. Also in the Day School of the St. John Congregation at Boyden. At the time of her death she was still relief teacher in a Day School in Los Angeles, California, the Ascension Lutheran Day School.

In October 1920 she was united in marriage with Edward R. Schulz of Parkston, South Dakota. In 1925 the family moved to Boyden and resided in this community until 1952 when they moved to Los Angeles, California, where Mrs. Maria Schulz passed away rather suddenly May 16th. Funeral services were held in the St. John Lutheran Church May 21, at 2:00 with Pastor P.A. Hinrichs officiating. Interment was made in the congregational cemetery.

Surviving Mrs. Schulz are her husband and two children, Victor of Sheldon and Eleanore, Mrs. H.D. McBride of Anaheim, California. Also her step-mother, Mrs. Augusta Baetke of Sheldon and one brother August Baetke, Professor at Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa.

Preceding her in death were her mother and father, two brothers, Carl and Johannes, and two sisters Emma and Elizabeth and a stepsister Augusta Topping.

Pallbearers at the funeral were Herman J,C. Hollander, John D. Stegemann, William Heitritter, Richard Kruse, Fred Schuldt and William Schroder.
