Mrs. W. O. Woodman Was Fatally Injured in Accident

Friends here were pained to learn of the death of Mrs. W. O. Woodman of this place at a hospital in Waverly, Iowa, last week Thursday, following an automobile accident of the evening before.

Mr. and Mrs. Woodman left Hull Wednesday morning and were headed for the World’s Fair at Chicago, as per our last issue. They were going to pick up a brother and his wife at Vinton, Iowa, and were as far as Fairfield, Iowa, a few miles north of Waverly, when they were forced off the road by a car coming onto the highway from a side road. Mr. Woodman was driving and the car made several complete turn-overs before stopping. Mrs. Woodman was thrown clear of the car and had her skull crushed and her collar bone broken. She died at a hospital in Waverly, where she was taken following the accident. Mr. Woodman was only slightly injured.

Mrs. Woodman, whose maiden name was Rosevelle Miller, was married to Mr. Woodman June 21st, 1930, and besides the husband, is survived by three brothers, Ray of Sutherland, Howard of Vinton, and Clinton of State Center, Iowa; and five sisters, Ruth and Dora of Ames, Mrs. Edith Christensen of Chicago, Mrs. Margaret Knopp of Ames and Lucille, who lives in Texas.

The funeral was held at Ames, Saturday, from the home, and from the First M. E. Church, of which she had been a member since childhood. The bereaved husband and family have the sincere sympathy of all the Hull friends. [Followed by a list of attendees from Hull similar to the above.]

From an unidentified newspaper, posted on her FindaGrave.com page:

Sister of C. C. Miller Fatally Hurt in Wreck
Died in Hospital at Waverly Ten Hours After Accident

Mrs. Rosevelle Woodman, of Hull, was fatally injured in an automobile accident last Wednesday afternoon two miles north of Plainfield, while enroute with her husband to attend the Century of progress at Chicago. Mrs. Woodman was a sister of C. C. Miller of this city.

The Woodman car was struck broadside and rolled over into a ditch by a car driven by Mrs. F. W. Schaeffer of Plainfield which came onto Highway 15 from a side road. Mrs. Woodman suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and a fractured collar bone. She was taken from the wreckage in an unconscious condition and removed to a Waverly hospital where she died ten hours later without regaining consciousness. Mr. Woodman suffered numerous cuts and bruises. A coroner’s jury Thursday afternoon held that the accident was unavoidable and exonerated both drivers.

Mrs. Woodman was born at Sutherland, Iowa, Dec. 17, 1907. With her family she moved to Ames about fourteen years ago and graduated from the Ames high school in 1927. Three years ago she was married to Mr. W. O. Woodman in Des Moines, following his graduation from Iowa State College. They resided at Plymouth for two years and moved to Hull a year ago, where Mr. Woodman was a teacher of agriculture in the schools.

Besides her husband Mrs. Woodman is survived by eight brothers and sisters, Miss Ruth Miller, Miss Dora Miller, Mrs. C. H. Leeds and Mrs. D. D. Knapp, all of Ames; Mrs. W. J. Christensen, Chicago; Ray Miller, Sutherland; C. C. Miller, State Center; and Howard Miller, Vinton.

The funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church at Ames with Rev. Walter A. Morgan in charge. Burial was in the Ames cemetery.
