Henry J. Schumacher, a resident of the Hawarden and Chatsworth communities for 55 years, passed away at his home in Chatsworth shortly after 4 o'clock last Thursday afternoon, following a long illness. He was a sufferer from a heart ailment and had been confined to his home for many months preceding his death.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Church in this city at 9:30 Saturday morning with Reverend Father R. Graff in charge. Interment was made in Calvary Cemetery.

He was united in marriage with Mary A. Potthoff in Hawarden October 7, 1889, and last October Mr. and Mrs. Schumacher celebrated their golden wedding.

Mr. Schumacher was one of the pioneers of Chatsworht, having resided there for the past forty years. For many years Mr. and Mrs. Schumacher operated the hotel there. He was also engaged in various other lines of business in Chatsworth during his long residence there. Before locating in Chatsworht he was engaged in farming in the Hawarden and Chatsworth communities for about 15 years. He served as mayor of Chatsworth for several years and he also served on the council for many years.

Mr. Schumacher possessed a jovial disposition and through his kindness he made numberless friends who will sincerely mourn his passing. During his long illness he was tenderly cared for by his wife and sincere sympathy is extended to her and the children in their loss of a good husband and father.
