Joseph J. Schumacher, 53, of Hawarden, died July 6 at an Alcester, South Dakota rest home.

Services were at 10 a.m. July 9 in St. Mary Catholic Church at Hawarden. The Reverend William Carel officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Rosary was said at 8 p.m. July 8 in the Dow Funeral Home.

Mr. Schumacher was born July 15, 1922, son of Anthony and Anna (Heider) Schumacher, near Hawarden. He farmed in the vicinity of Alcester and moved to Sioux Falls in 1953. He had been in the rest home since 1970.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

Survivors include four brothers, Gregory of Alcester, A.J. and George, both of Sioux City and Leo of Hawarden; two sisters, Mrs. John (Catherine) Rembe of Sioux City and Mrs. Walter (Clara) Busch of Chatsworth.
