Laura B. Schroeder, 98, of Le Mars passed away early Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Park Place Estates Assisted Living in Le Mars.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with Reverend Tim Geitz of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hull, Iowa. Visitations will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Brad Athens, Eric Athens, Scott Ragan, Jim Oswald, Daron Walter, and Bruce Leinen.

Laura Blanche Helmers was born July 29, 1913 in Cherokee, Iowa to Henry and Minnie Pearl (Weatherly) Helmers. Laura was baptized by the minister of the Church of Christ Church in the Little Rock River near Rock Rapids, Iowa. She attended country school at Garfield #5, Center Township, Lyon County, Iowa and Doon High School. Laura was united in marriage to Harold Schroeder on September 18, 1930 at Mitchell, South Dakota. The couple farmed near Doon, Iowa until retirement in 1963. They later lived in Denver, Colorado and later moved to Luverne, Minnesota. Harold passed away in April of 1979. Laura moved to Le Mars, Iowa in 1993. In March of 2011, she moved to Park Place Estates Assisted Living.

Survivors include one nieces, Bonnie Gassman and her husband Jerry of Hutchinson, Minnesota; three nephews, Sonny Athens of Le Mars, Roger Athens and his wife Betty of Le Mars, and Don Schemmel and his wife Louise of Dexter, Iowa; and several great nieces and nephews.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Pearl (Weatherly) Helmers; husband, Harold Schroeder; a sister, Bernice Athens; 3 infant siblings; a nephew, Larry Athens; a niece, Constance Nichols; a niece-in-law, Ramonda Athens; a nephew-in-law, Douglas Walter; and a sister-in-law, Berniece (Van Buskirk) Helmers.
