John P. Schroeder, well known Alton business man, passed away at his home, May 13, at the age of 67 years.

He was born December 12, 1877, at Bellevue, Iowa, the son of Nicholas and Mary Ann (Arens) Schroeder. The Schroeder family moved to Alton 52 years ago. The father and three sons, of whom John is the last, were engaged in the shoe business.

John had been ill since last fall, but became critically ill the past few weeks. He has three sisters, Nell and Amelia, who made a home for him, and Mrs. Clara Gates of Des Moines. There are a number of nieces and nephews also surviving.

Funeral services were held in St. Mary's Church Wednesday morning.
