MRS. JOHN ROMBERG, RESIDENT HERE SINCE 1905, PASSES ON--BORN IN MEPPEL, NETHERLANDS NEARLY 86 YEARS AGO

Mrs. John Romberg, a resident at Alton since 1905, died Saturday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Eybers, in Sioux City where she was taken in October.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 at the home of her daughter here, Mrs. William Gebauer Sr., and at 2:00 o’clock at the First Reformed Church, Reverend Hesselink officiating. Two grandsons, Julius and Gustave Bebauer of Long Beach are expected Wednesday night.

Judith Pott was born December 4, 1861 at Meppel, Netherlands. In 1884 she moved with her parents to Hoogeveen, The Netherlands and was married there to John Romberg April 21, 1885. In 1900 the family moved ro Eickel, Germany and in 1905 came to the United States and settled at Alton. They celebrated their golden wedding in 1935, surrounded by their children and grandchildren.

Since the death of her husband May 10, 1942, Mrs. Romberg has been in the devoted care of her two daughters.

The children of Mr. and Mrs. Romberg are Henrietta, Mrs. William Gebauer Sr., of Alton; Clara, Mrs. Harry Eybers of Sioux City and Ralph of Sumas, Washington. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

No word has been received from Ralph Romberg at Sumas, but the funeral was set for Friday in hope that he might reach here in time for it.

Mrs. Romberg had been in ill health for some years. Friday Mr. and Mrs. Gebauer Sr., accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gebauer to Sioux City to see their mother and grandmother, who was then able to recognize them. She was nearly 86 years old at the time of her passing, a fine mother to her three children and equally devoted to her grandchildren.
