John Romberg, long time resident of Alton, passed on Sunday morning at the age of 78 after a short illness.

John Romberg was born at Hoogeveen, Netherlands on June 28, 1964. On April 22, 1885, he was joined in marriage to Miss Judith Pot. On July 5, 1905, Mr. and Mrs. Romberg arrived in Alton, Iowa where thy took residence and continued to make their home here throughout the years which followed. Soon after arrival in Alton, Mr. Romberg became employed as a section hand for the Omaha and Northwestern Railroad, in which employ he remained for twenty-seven years. In the year 1931 he retired due to a serious injury of his hand. Upon retirement he continued to have good health until about two years ago when his health began to fall due to condition of his heart. This condition became alarming when he became suddenly ill last Wednesday and continued so until Sunday morning when he passed out of his life at the age of 78 years, 11 months and ten days.

The deceased was a devoted husband, a loving father, a charitable grandfather, and a sincere Christian. He is survived by his aged wife, two daughters, Mts. William Gebauer of Alton and Mrs. Harry Eybers of Sioux City, Iowa, and one son, Ralph Romberg of Lynden, Washington, three sisters, Mrs. Henry Smith of Sioux Center, Mrs. Nellie Hulst of Hinkster, North Dakota and Mrs. Nick Hulst of Hospers and sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are to be held this Thursday at 1:30 P.M. at the William Gebauer Sr, home and at 2:00 o’clock at the First Reformed Church. Six grandsons will act as pallbearers: John Eybers, John Gebauer, Henry Gebauer, Ralph Gebauer, William Gebauer and Gustave Gebauer.
