Olin Gustavus Reiniger, Jr. was born at Rock Valley March 21, 1896. At an early age he came with his parents to Orange City where he attended the public school graduating from the Orange City High School in 1916. Upon his graduation he accepted a position in the First National Bank at Hawarden. In August 1917 he entered the Officers Training Camp at Fort Snelling, Minnesota and was commissioned to second Lieutenant. In the summer of 1918 he was transferred to Auburn, Alabama where he was instructor in military science and tactics at the Alabama Polytechnic Institute,

On December 4, 1918 he was married to Miss Willa B. Rutledge of Auburn. He received his discharge from the army at Camp Gordon, Georgia in April 1919. He accepted a position as assistant chief time inspector for the government on construction work at Benning, Georgia.

In the fall of 1919 he came back to Orange City and became deputy Clerk of Courts in his father’s office. In January 1920 he returned again to the University of Alabama where he completed his law course in June 1921. He practice law at La Fayette, Alabama for short time then came to Hawarden where he practiced law for two years, then returned to Atlanta, Georgia, where he practiced law until the spring of 1930 when he went to New York and associated himself with radio work. In 1931 he returned to Orange City. In 1933 he went on duty as C.C.C. Camp Commander in northern Minnesota. This office he held for 3 ½ years. He came back to Orange City in August 1936 and practiced law with his father.

He entered the Lutheran hospital at Sioux City on November 6 with an acute attack of agranulocytic angina. At. The end of three weeks when the malady seemed ro have reached a standstill he was brought home. His condition however, remained critical for three weeks. On Monday, December 27, following a sudden change for the worse he was taken to the De Bey Hospital for a blood transfusion. This brought no permanent benefit but he gradually grew weaker and on Thursday, Deecember 30 at 9:30 A.M. he passed away at the age of 41 years.

Mr. Reiniger was well known, honored and highly esteemed. He was County Commander of the American Legion, County Chairman of the Red Cross, member of the Floyd Lodge No. 527, member of the Lion’s Club, Boy Scouts Counselor, member of the Reserved Officers Association of the United States, a member of the Reserve Officers of Minnesota, Captain of the 352nd Infantry Reserve 88th Division. He was a member of the Protestant Episcopal Church at Tuscaloosa, Alabama which he served in various capacities.

He is survived by his widow, and two daughters, Ann and Martha, his parents, two brothers, G,G. Reiniger of New York City; Scott Reiniger of Des Moines; two sisters: Caroline, Mrs. Starr Thayer of Houston, Texas; and June, Mrs. B.C. Jones of Libertyville, Illinois. All came for the funeral services which were held on Saturday at 1:30 at the home and at 2 o’clock at the American Reformed Church with Reverend Mr. L. Nattress officiating assisted by Reverend Mr. J.G. Brouwer. The Masonic Lodge were in charge of the services at the cemetery.
