Death called John Reith, early settler in the vicinity half way between Alton and Remsen, last Thursday, July 25. He had been in poor health for five years.

Mr. Reith was born June 13, 1885, on the same farm where he died last week and where he grew up, located seven miles north of Remsen and two miles east and six miles south of Alton. He married Josephine Schnee at Alton, January 14, 1908.

Survivors include the widow and two daughters: Mrs. Martin Gaul, Le Mars, and Mrs. Marcella Hodgen, Alton. He is also survived by six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 10 A.M., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Remsen, with the Reverend Father Gerald F. Zensen officiating. Burial was at Alton in the St. Mary’s Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Robert Mai, Peter Konz, Joseph Roder, Vernon Schiltz, Ronald Haack and Leland Mousel.

Mr. Reith was widely known throughout this area and will be missed by a very large circle of friends.
