From the Boyden Reporter, March 12, 1931:

FRANCES MAXINE VANDER LEE

The entire community was shocked to learn of the death of another child in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Simon VanderLee, when their little daughter Frances Maxine suddenly died after a comparatively brief illness. Her brother Russell died February 29 [actually, he died February 8]. Funeral services for Frances Maxine were held on Thursday, March 12, 1931, at the Henry Kortekamp home, and at one-thirty o’clock at the United Presbyterian church. Complete details will be published next week. The bereaved parents have the deepest and sincerest sympathy of all in the death of their two children.

From the Boyden Reporter, March 19, 1931:

Frances Maxine Vander Lee was born November 30, 1925, and died at her parents’ home on March 10, 1931. She was 5 years, 3 months and 9 days old at the time of her death. She is survived by her parents, Simon J. and Irene F. Vander Lee, her sister, Audrey Fay Vander Lee, four grandparents, two great-grandparents, five uncles, four aunts and four cousins.

At the time of her death, Frances was a member of the Bible school and the Junior Church of the United Presbyterian church of Boyden, Iowa. Frances was a quiet and lovable child. Not only will she be missed by her parents and relatives, but by all who intimately knew her. Her vacant chair in the Bible School and Junior Church will be a tribute to the love of the little soldier of the Cross for Jesus Christ, her Savior and Lord.

Her death certificate has Francis Maxime Van Der Lee; born Nov. 30, 1925 in Iowa; parents Simon Van Der Lee, born in Holland, and Irene Harman, born in Iowa; died at 9:11 p.m. March 10, 1931; causes of death influenza (2/15/31), double lobar pneumonia (2/21/31), pleurisy (2/21/31), and emphysema (3/6/31).

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has her as Francis Maxine Vander Lee.
