From the Boyden Reporter, February 12, 1931:

RUSSELL VANDER LEE

Russell Vander Lee, 2 ½ year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Vander Lee, residing south of Boyden, died early Monday morning, following an appendicitis operation.

Russell had been ill with influenza and tonsilitis for a few days early last week and was getting along nicely when suddenly Saturday afternoon he developed a sudden severe attack of appendicitis. A specialist was called and he advised an immediate operation. While operating the appendix was found to be in a very bad condition, but was not ruptured. Sunday Russell seemed to be making good progress, but suddenly Sunday evening he developed pneumonia and early Monday morning he passed away.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the U. P. church, Rev. Clyde officiating. Interment was made at the Boyden cemetery. Surviving Russell are his parents and two small sisters.

The parents have the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement. Russell was a bright little fellow and beloved by all who knew him.
