From the Sioux Center News, December 30, 1971:

Funeral services were held at the American Reformed Church in Hull at 10 A.M. Monday, December 27, for Mrs. Kirk Sheldon, 88, of Hull, who died at the Orange City hospital December 24.

Mrs. Sheldon, the former Sophia Folrich, was born August 18, 1883. She married Kirk Sheldon December 31, 1904. He died August 9, 1947.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Marguerite) Forney of Centerville, and Mrs. Hyman (Mildred) Hymans of Hull, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

The Sioux County Index (Hull), which probably carried a fuller obituary, is missing for this period. The obituary for her husband, Kirk Clayton Sheldon (posted separately) gives additional family details.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Sheldon, Sophia M., b. 18 Aug 1883, d. 24 Dec 1971, Hope Cem Hull IA. The entries for family members with her birth name all spell it Follrich.

The Sioux County marriage register for 1904 shows groom Kirk Clayton Sheldon of Hull, age 20, a farmer, born in Hull, parents George A. Sheldon and Alta E. White; bride Sophia M. Follrich of Hull, age 22, born at Forreston, Ill., parents Benj. Follrich and Mary Meyers; married at Hull December 31, 1904.
