Mr. Wm. Nendel aged 93 Passes Away
On May 6th on his 93rd birthday, Mr. Wm. Nendel was called upon by the Lord to answer the summons out of this life.

Mr. Nendel was born Hay 6th 1825 at Chemnitz, Saxony Germany. In his infancy he was received into the covenant of God by holy baptism and after due infraction in the principal doctrines of the Lutheran faith was confirmed at the age of 14. In 1846 he was joined in wedlock to Miss Emma Fromholdt, of Chemnitz, to which union 10 children were born, 7 sons and three daughters 5 of which preceded their father in death.

In 1851 he emigrated with he family to America, settling at Northampton Mass. Being a weaver by trade he worked in a mill at this place for about a year; then moved to Holyoke Mass, where he entered a button factory. In 1855 he went on a farm near Appleton, Wis., remaining in that vicinity for about 15 years. He then came to this state, taking a Homestead of 80 acres on sec., 10 of Reading Township Sioux Co.

In 1880 his faithful spouse was torn from his side by grim death. A year later he retired from the farm to the town Maurice where he worked in the Coal yards of Queal and CO. several years there after he made his home with his daughter Mrs. E. Hennrich 2 1/2 miles north of Struble and when Mr. and Mrs. E Henrich retired to LeMars 18 years ago and the home place was turned over to their son Louis, grandpa Nendel passing the last years of his life with him.

Concerning his state of health Mr. Nendel was in ill health more or less, up to his 60th year after that however he enjoyed fairly good health until about a year ago when he was afflicted with congestion of the arteries of the foot, confining him ever since to his room. This trouble in connection with gradual weakening of the heart and old age finally brought on his demise.

He passed away last Monday at the early hour of 2:30 at the age of 93 years, leaving besides 5 children, 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren to mourn their loss.

The children are: Julius Nendel, of Arlie Oreg., Wm. Nendel, of Stayton Oreg; Fred Nendel, of Orcott, Cal. and Mrs. Agnes Hennrich, of Los Angeles, Cal. May the Lord comfort them in their sad bereavement.

Burial services, in charge of Rev. C B. Nuofter, pastor of St. John's' Lutheran church, were held at the home of Mr. Louis Hennrich Thursday May 9th , at 2, o'clock P. M.: and interment made at St. John’s Lutheran cemetery in Heading Twp. Messrs H. Becker, H. F Mueller, C. Bowen, D, Buckley, John Vander Hamm and Fred Jahn acted as pall bearers.

One of the oldest citizens of Sioux county died Monday, May 6th, it being his birthday, he was born just 93 years before. He came to Sioux county in the early 70’s and homesteaded an 80 now owned by William Dealy. William Nindel (Nendel) was born May 6 1826 and died May 6, 1918, at the home of Lou Hendrich his grandson, near Struble, Iowa. He leaves five children, four boys Julius, Oscar, William and Fred, all residing on the Pacific Coast, and one daughter, Mrs. Ernest Henrich also residing in California. Grandpa Nindel was buried from St. John’s Lutheran Church Thursday, Rev. Neuoffer having charge.

Note: In a report on ancestry.com Ludwig Wilhelm Nendel was born May 6, 1825 in Chemnitz, Saxony, Germany, to Carl Gotthelf Nendel and Karolina Friederika Richter. He married Helen Emma Fromhold on July 26 1846. They had nine children, he died May 6 1918 at Maurice (Struble) Iowa.
