Marion Nicholas Aalbers, 65, of Latimer, died of cancer on January 14. He was born August 13, 1918, at Alton and was the son of Nicholas and Johanna Aalbers.

He attended school in Alton, graduating from high school in 1937. In 1941 he graduated from Central College at Pella and had his first teaching job at Lanesboro, where he taught math. He entered the Navy in 1943, serving as an astrologist until 1946 when he was discharged.

In May of 1945 he married Ruth Jurgens of Latimer. He attended Iowa State University at Ames for one yer where he received his vocational agriculture degree. He then taught one year at Pella and four years at Sioux Center.

In April, 1952, Max moved with his wife and only child, Richard John, to the farm northeast of Latimer which he farmed until November, 1983.

Max was active in the Reformed Church of America, serving on the Board of North American Missions, the Extension Committee and the Church Growth Committee.

Locally he was a member of Zion Reformed Church at Sheffield and taught Sunday School and catechism classes there as well as serving on the consistory. He was deeply involved in the work of the Gideon Society. He also served as president of the local school board during the time of consolidation of CAL Community School.

Max is survived by his wife, Ruth; one son, Richard and three grandchildren: Daniel of Alton. Benjamin and Abigail Aalbers, all of Mr. Vernon. He is also survived by one sister, Miss Diana Aalbers of Orange City and one brother, E.J. (Bud) Aalbers of Alton. He was preceded in death by his parents.
