David Rash, son of Joseph and Lena (Renalds) Rash, was born in Columbia County, Ohio, January 10, 1823. There he grew to manhood and was married to Sarah Hahn, April 20, 1845. To this union five daughters were born: Elizabeth, Margaret, Eliza, Martha and Minerva. Mr. and Mrs. Rash lived on a farm in the above mentioned county for nine years after their marriage, and then moved to Williams County in northwestern Ohio. In 1863 they moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa; there to a farm in Butler County. They continued to live there until in 1880 when they moved to Hull. Mrs. Rash died in 1896. Since that time Mr. Rash has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. C.R. Brown of this place.

David Rash died August 14, 1912, in the morning at 3 o’clock. He had reached the advanced age of eighty-nine years, seven months and four days. Five children, sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren survive to mourn the deceased. The children are Mrs. Margaret Brown of this place, Mrs. Eliza Bolton of Santa Rosa, California; Mrs. Martha Strong of South Dakota; Mrs. Minerva Brown of Allison, Iowa; and an adopted son, Robert, of Dillion, Montana.

Mr. and Mrs. Rash, shortly after their marriage, united with the Christian Church of which Mr. Rash was a liberal supporter. Being unable of late years to attend the services of public worship on account of extreme deafness, he was an earnest student of the Bible, continuing his daily readings as long as his waning vitality and consciousness permitted him to do so.

The remains were laid to rest Thursday morning, August 15 beside those of his wife. Reverend Domna preaching the funeral.
