MRS. GERRIT OOSTENBURG, 47, PASSED AWAY LAST WEDNESDAY

Friends here were saddened last week to hear if the death of Mrs. Gerrit Oostenburg of Primghar, formerly of this place, in a Sioux City Hospital. She died Wednesday night, February 12th. She had submitted to an operation for gall bladder trouble and complications set in causing her death.

Funeral services were held at Primghar on Saturday afternoon, February 15th and the remains were brought to Hull for burial in Hope Cemetery. Short services were held here at the Chapel.

God in His great wisdom saw fit to take to Himself, Mrs. Gerrit Oostenburg on Wednesday night, February 12th, 1941, at 9:30 o’clock, at the age of 47 years. Mrs. Oostenburg, nee Jennie Kooiker, was born near Sheldon, was born near Sheldon, in Sioux County, Iowa on October 1, 1893. She became the bride of Mr. Gerrit Oostenburg in Sheldon on February 12, 194. The day of her death, therefore, was also the occasion of her twenty-seventh wedding anniversary.

After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Oostenburg lived in both Sioux and O’Brien Counties and five years ago moved to near Primghar.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Kooiker in 1895, by her son, Raymond, at the age of 5 years in 1922, and by her infant son, William at the age of seven months in 1920.

Those left to mourn her passing are her husband, and ten children, namely: Alice (Mrs. William Waanders) of Sioux City, Bernice (Mrs. Clifford Ruby) of Sheldon, Verne, Willis, Ann, Margaret, Lloyd, Glenn, Edith, and Keith--all at home and one grandchild, David William Waanders. She also has left behind her mother, Mrs. Horlings of Hull, one sister--Mrs. Ruth Nooman of Melvin, three brothers--Lubert R. and Lambert Kooiker of Hull and Albert Horlings of New York State.

Mrs. Oostenburg leaves a host of friends and was admired as a mother and in many other ways. She made confession of her faith in Christ in the Reformed Church of Sheldon.
