From the Rock Valley Bee, January 17, 1930:

G. A. Dunham, Former Resident, Passed Away

George Arthur Dunham, a former well-known resident of Rock Valley, died suddenly at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. A. Hoppock, at Mt. Vernon, S.D., Wednesday, January 8, 1920. Mr. Dunham was one of the pioneer residents of Rock Valley and lived here for many years, being a prominent business man of this place.

He was a man who was highly thought of wherever he was known and while here took a prominent part in the affairs of the town. He served as town councilman and also as a member of the school board for several terms, and has many friends here who regret his death.

Mr. Dunham was born in Delaware county, Ohio, September 3, 1857, and had attained the age of seventy-two years, four months and five days. He moved away from Rock Valley about twenty-two years ago, locating at Shell Lake, Wis., where he has made his home since leaving Rock Valley, except when visiting among his children.

Mr. Dunham is survived by five children, Lloyd A., of Milwaukee, Wis., Clarence C., of Eau Claire, Wis., Helen Endicott, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Dorothy Hunter, of Lewis, Wis., and Lulu Hoppock, of Mt. Vernon, S.D. He also leaves eight grand children and five great grand children.

The remains were brought to Rock Valley for funeral services and burial. The services were held in the Methodist church Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. G. A. Tylerpaste[?]. The services were largely attended and many beautiful floral tributes were in evidence.

Among the relatives from a distance who were here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd A. Dunham, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Hoppock, Clarence Dunham, Dorothy Hunter, Mr. and Mrs. Van Vakenburg[Valkenburg?], of Doon, and Mr. and Mrs. Enright, of Mitchell, S.D.

A briefer obituary in the Alton Democrat, January 17, 1930, Rock Valley news, adds that he came to Rock Valley in 1890 and for many years was engaged in the harness making business. Burial took place beside his wife, baby and son in Valley View cemetery. A mixed quartet sang at the funeral. It identifies his daughter as Mrs. Clint Hoppock.
