Norma Vander Meulen, age 81, of Ocheyedan, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, Minnesota.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at the Christian Reformed Church in Ocheyedan, Iowa. Rev. Bill Van Der Heide officiating.

Burial to follow at Ocheyedan Township Cemetery in Ocheyedan.

Visitation will be Monday, June 18, from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Christian Reformed Church in Ocheyedan.

Norma, daughter of Arnold and Cornelia (Kate)(Vos) Humme was born on a farm northwest of Hull, Iowa on February 2, 1937. She graduated from Hull High School in 1955 and attended Northwestern Junior College in Orange City for one year. She was employed by the ASC Office in Orange City for three years.
On June 29, 1960 she was united in marriage to Alan Vander Meulen at the First Reformed Church in Hull. The couple was blessed with four children Rhonda, Brad, Natalie and Dawn. After marriage she worked at the Ocheyedan Savings Bank, secretary at Faith Christian High School and was janitor of the church for ten years.
Norma was a member of the Ocheyedan Christian Reformed Church and gave of her time as a Sunday School teacher, Calvinette leader and Youth Group leader with Alan for many years. She was also a faithful member of the Sonshine Bible Study group.
Norma was a dedicated wife and loving mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. She treasured the time she spent attending all her children and grandchildren’s activities, she enjoyed camping and traveling with Alan and loved cooking and baking for family and friends. She was best known for her potato salad and sour cream raisin pies. In recent years she enjoyed going to the church Sew & Sow (sewing group) and playing cards at the Senior Citizen Center.
Her faith remained strong throughout her life and her deepest desire was for her children and grandchildren to be brought up in the fear of the Lord.
Norma will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Alan; her children: Rhonda (Kenneth) Weg of Sibley, Iowa, Bradley (Michele) Vander Meulen of Ocheyedan, Iowa, Natalie (Michael) Mulder of Worthington, Minnesota, and Dawn (Brent) Witte of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; twelve grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; twelve step great-grandchildren; one brother, Peter (Sylvia) Humme of Orange City, Iowa; two sisters, Mary (Harlan) Van’t Hul of Rock Valley, Iowa and Donna Humme of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; sister-in-law, Wilma Humme.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Kate Humme; brothers, John and his wife, MaryAnn, James and David Humme; sister, Nelverne Marra and her husband, Ted.
