Arlene Sohl age 84 of Rock Rapids, IA died peacefully, Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Rock Rapids Care Center.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 29,2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church near Hull, IA, with Pastor Aaron Deutsch officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday, April 28, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Arlene M. Sohl (Techen) was born August 17, 1933 on a farm near Hull, IA, the eldest of five children of Arlie and Ella (Breuer) Techen. Later the family moved to a farm just east of Doon, IA.

Arlene graduated from the Doon High School in 1951 and began working as a telephone operator in Sheldon, IA.

On October 5, 1953, she was united in marriage to Alvin Sohl at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hull, IA. Shortly after their wedding they moved to Columbus, OH, where Arlene continued to work for the telephone company as a long-distance operator. In 1955 Al received his honorable discharge from the U.S. Airforce and together they returned to Northwest Iowa.

Upon returning to Northwest Iowa Al and Arlene were blessed with two sons, Kevin and Brian and farmed around George and Rock Rapids for the next thirty years and then retired to Rock Rapids in 1995. After retiring from farm life Arlene began working in food services at the Merrill Pioneer Hospital until finally retiring ten years later.

Arlene was a very accomplished seamstress and quilter and very involved in church life at St Paul Lutheran Church, where she and Al were both life Long members. She also loved to play cards especially Bridge, but most of all she enjoyed time with family and friends.

Arlene is survived by a son, Brian Sohl of Omaha, NE; one sister, Elaine (Kenneth) Sohl of Rock Rapids, IA; four brothers-in-law, Reuben Winter of Sheldon, IA, Robert (Verna) Sohl of Tulsa, OK, Harold (Darlene) Sohl of Seattle, WA and Lawrence (Kathleen) Sohl of Hull, IA; three sisters-in-law, Marlene Techen of George, IA; Shirley Techen of Sheldon, Karen Sohl of Peru, IL; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her Husband of 61 years Alvin Sohl; parents, Arlie and Ella Techen; a son, Kevin Sohl; two brothers: Arnold and Eldon Techen; one sister, Louise Winter; parents-in-law, Paul and Elise Sohl; brother-in-law, Don Sohl; and three nephews, Rodney Winter, Douglas Techen and Michael Sohl.
