Mr. Willis Van Kalsbeek, age 75, of Hospers, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at the Veteran’s Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

There will be a funeral service on Monday, June 4, at 10:00am, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hospers. The Rev. Aaron Gonzalez will be officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Hospers Cemetery near Hospers. Visitation will be after 2:00pm on Sunday, with the family present from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hospers.

Willis Rodney was born on October 6, 1942, in rural Sheldon, the son of Peter Remmert and Gertrude (Kooiker) Van Kalsbeek. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull.

On September 1, 1966, he married Lola Boone in Sheldon. They made their home on the family farm until February 12, 2014, when they moved to Hospers. He farmed all of his life and also drove truck for Joe’s Feed Service.

“Willie” was a lifelong member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Hospers, where he was a young people’s sponsor. He was also on the board of directors of the Christian School and the Farmers Elevator, both in Hospers, and the Sioux County Extensions Counsel. He enjoyed fishing, seeing the Blue Angels, and watching MOC - Floyd Valley High School and Northwestern College basketball games, both in Orange City.

Survivors include his wife of more than 51 years, Lola; three sons, Kelly and Rachel Van Kalsbeek, of Sheldon, and his children, Daniel and Amanda, Justin and Tamra, Alex, and Jesse Willis; Lyle Van Kalsbeek, of Sioux Falls, and his son, Cameron; and Kurt and Emily Van Kalsbeek, of Brandon, South Dakota, and their children, Brady and Alyssa; three brothers and their wives, Ron and Harriet Van Kalsbeek, of Hospers; and John and Judy Van Kalsbeek and Gary and Carla Van Kalsbeek, all of Orange City; a sister-in-law and her husband, Carol and Dave Van Beek, of Sheldon; and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Kevin Lee; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Leona and Jerry Rolston.

Memorial may be directed to the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System or the First Christian Reformed Church in Hospers.
