Mr. Peter Jeltema, age 90, of Orange City, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, June 9, at 11:00am, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Mark Vande Zande will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a family prayer service on Saturday, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home.

Peter was born on October 1, 1927, in Maurice, the son of John and Jesse (Jasper) Jeltema. He was raised in Orange City, where he attended the Orange City Christian School and the Northwestern Academy. He also served in the United States Army during World War II.

On September 9, 1952, he married Lois Ruth Mulder at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. They made their home in Orange City where “Pete” was a carpenter his whole life. Lois passed away on August 5, 2015, in Sioux Center. They were married more than 62 years.

Mr. Jeltema was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church where he had served as a deacon. He also belonged to the Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post in Orange City. In earlier years, he was a volunteer fireman for the Orange City Fire Department. He was an avid bowler.

Survivors include his two children and their spouses, Vicky and Howard Kooistra, of Rock Valley; and Randy and Lora Jeltema, of Orange City; four grandchildren, Emily Kooistra; Phil Kooistra, and his wife, Judy; Adam Kooistra; and Jeff Jeltema; three great-grandchildren, Kaydrian Dean, Kingston Peter, and Annistyn Lois Kooistra; two sisters, Gert Rens; and Marcia, and her husband, John Pulscher; and a sister-in-law, Henrietta “Nupe” Jeltema.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Jeltema; a sister-in-law and her husband, Esther and Marion Hulst; and a brother-in-law, John Rens.

Memorials may be directed to the Orange City Christian School.
