Mrs. Nelva Schreur, age 85, of Orange City, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at the Orange City Area Health System.

There will be a memorial service on Friday, May 25, at 11:00am, at the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Dr. Brian Keepers and the Rev. Donald Lenderink will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a family prayer service on Friday, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 6:00pm on Thursday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the funeral home.

Nelva Mae was born on May 6, 1933, in Orange City, the daughter of Ben and Ellen (Vander Zwaag) Roetman. She was raised in Orange City, where she graduated from the Orange City High School in 1951 and Northwestern Junior College in 1953.

On November 14, 1953, she married Don E. Schreur in Orange City. They made their home in Orange City, where she was first a legal secretary and then worked for Sioux County in the Department of Human Services and the Recorder’s office.

Mrs. Schreur was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church, where she sang in the choir and was active in the women’s organizations.

She was also involved in the Orange City community, where she served as Tulip Festival historian for many years. When her sons were younger, she was their Cub Scout den mother.

Nelva was an avid reader and enjoyed counted cross stitching, antiquing, and solving cross word puzzles.

Survivors include her husband of more than 64 years; two sons and their wives, Robert and Sharnel Schreur, of Clermont, Iowa; and the Rev. Dr. Edward and Tamera Schreur, of Scarsdale, New York; two grandchildren, Dr. Christopher and Alexandra Schreur, and their children, Wren and Jonah, of San Bernadino, California; and Rebekah and Anders Lund, of Copenhagen, Denmark; a brother-in-law, David Schreur, of Omaha, Nebraska; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Joy and Ken Kreykes, of State Center, Iowa.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Anna Ruth Schreur.

Memorials may directed to the Orange City Fire Department and the Orange City Public Library.
