Jno. Vande Brake passed away Sunday evening at his home west of town, at the age of fifty-two years. He suffered for a long time and about eight months ago he was attacked with pleurisy. He was born near Pella in January, 1863, coming here thirty-two years ago. He was united in marriage to Johanna Oolman July 2, 1886. Seven children were born to them, five of whom are living: George, Living west of town; Mrs. M. Kraay, near Hospers; Jacob, Bert and Eva, who are still at the parental home. He is also survived by his widow and three brothers, Johannes of this town, Evert of Sioux Center and Hendrick of Maurice, while a brother-in-law, W. Veldhuizen, is living at Leighton. Funeral services were held Wednesday at twelve o'clock at the home and at two o'clock from the First Reformed church.

The Northwestern bank was closed Wednesday afternoon during the funeral of Jno. Vande Brake. The deceased was for several years a stockholder of the bank.

It is our painful duty to chronicle the death of John Van De Brake, one of West Branch township's most prominent citizens. Every one seemed to have the idea that his health was improving. A specialist from Chicago had given strong hopes but last Sunday he had a severe coughing spell with the result that he passed away shortly afterwards. He was buried last Wednesday at Orange City, after services in the First Reformed church to which he belonged. Mr. Van De Brake was born in Pella and came to this county many years ago in its early tines. He accumulated a good fortune which he leaves to his wife and five children. He was a prominent democrat and served often as election judge. He also has been a member of the school board a number of years.

[Note: the First Reformed church book lists his first name as 'Jan' and his last name as 'Van Der Brake' and death date of May 2, 1915.]
