With the suddenness of a lightening bolt, the lives of Felix Langenhorst, prominent Granville farmer, and of Mrs. William Eugelbrecht, wife of a well known Remsen farmer, were snuffed out when the car of which Mr. Langenhorst was driving crashed into the steel railing of a culvert after having passed a truck about a mile south of Merrill late Tuesday night.

Mrs. Langenhorst suffered scalp wounds and right leg broken. Miss Hazel Engelbrecht was cut severely about the head. Mrs. Engelbrecht and Mr. Langenhorst were dead when two ambulances sent out from the hospital at Le Mars arrived. The three injured persons were taken to the Sacred Heart Hospital. Mr. Engelbrecht was thought to have possible internal injuries as well as cuts and bruises.

Funeral services were held Friday morning at 9 o’clock at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Reverend J. A. Gerleman in charge , assisted by Reverend D. G. Peters as deacon, Reverend V. J. Peters sub-deacon, both of Dubuque and Reverend Frances Ilf, sub deacon.

He was 43 years of age, the son of the late, Mr. and Mrs. John and Balbina (Peters) Langenhorst and was born in Sioux County, on the farm near Hospers. About 19 years ago he married Rose, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hodapp of Granville. The family has resided on their farm located four miles south and a mile west of Granville for about ten years. Mr. Langenhorst was known as one of Sioux County’s most progressive and wide awake farmers.

He is survived by the widow and four children: Anthony, Marie, Marian and Irene, and also by one sister, Mrs. George Hartman of Iona, Minnesota.
