From the Sioux County Index (Hull), November 1, 1929:

Suffers a Severe Stroke, Passed Away on Saturday

Mr. Pier DeGroot of Orange City suffered a severe paralytic stroke last Friday and was removed at once to the local hospital for treatment. His age was against him and on Saturday morning he passed into the great beyond.

He was a brother of J. P. DeGroot of Hull and had spent much of his time lately in the DeGroot home here and enjoyed a wide circle of friends.

The funeral was held from Hull Tuesday in the American Reformed church at Orange City and the remains were laid to rest in the Orange City cemetery. The Index joins the friends of the surviving relatives in extending sincere sympathy.
