Mrs. Bert McKenney Dies at Her Home November 28

Clara Hazlitt McKenney was born February 22, 1881, in Sioux County and died at her home on November 28, 1956 at the age of 75 years, nine months and six days.

Her parents were Henry and Mary Hazlitt and she was the youngest of 10 children which includes six boys and four girls.

On September 26, 1902, she was united in marriage with Herbert E. McKenney at Canton, South Dakota. To this union three sons were born, Wayne, Verne and Emmett.

Clara McKenney spent all her life on her father's homestead located seven miles west of Rock Valley on Highway 18, with the exception of the first three years of her married life when she and her husband lived on a Coyer farm near the homestead.

She is survived by her husband, Bert, three son; Wayne and Verne of Inwood, and Emmett of Newcastle, Nebraska, one sisters; Annie Koltze of Canton, South Dakota. Eighteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 30th at 2:00 p.m. at the McKenney home. Dr. Nelson A. Price of Rock Valley officiating and other arrangements under the direction of the VanDeMore Funeral Home. Pallbearers were six grandchildren: Vincent McKenney, Lawrence McKenney, Robert McKenney, Norman McKenney, Kenneth and Glen McKenney.

Burial was at the Rock Valley Cemetery.
