From the Rock Valley Bee, April 19, 1929:

FORMER ROCK VALLEY BOY DIED IN MILWAUKEE

Arthur Clement, a former Rock Valley boy, passed away in Milwaukee, Wis., where he had been employed by the Elks Club for the past year and a half. He had been sick since last December, and gradually failed from that time until the final summons came, last Thursday, April 11. He was 19 years, 7 months and 11 days old.

He was born in Holland July 1, 1909. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Clement, emigrated to this country when Arthur was seven months old, coming directly to Rock Valley where Arthur grew to manhood, all of his life being spent here, except about two years. He went to Milwaukee about a year and a half ago. He received his education in the Rock Valley school, and was a favorite among his companions.

His mother preceded him in death several years ago. He leaves his father, Frank Clement, and three brothers and three sisters, as follows: Henry, of Yankton, S.D.; Frank, of O’Neil, Nebr.; George, of Milwaukee; Johanna and Nina, of Milwaukee; and Julia, of Pipestone, Minn.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church Monday, and the remains were taken to the Valley View Cemetery.

From the Alton Democrat, April 19, 1929, Rock Valley news:

Arthur Clements passed away April 11th, 1929 after almost a four months illness of tuberculosis, at a sanitarium in Milwaukee, Wis. Deceased was born in Holland, July 1, 1909 and came to America when he was seven months of age. He is the youngest son of Frank Clements of Milwaukee. When coming to this country the family located in Rock Valley where Arthur received his education. He was a member of the football team for 4 years and his name rang in praise up and down the field. He also was a member of the declamatory society.

About one and a half years ago Arthur went to Milwaukee to join his father and there he was employed as bus boy by the Elk club. On December 16th, 1928 he was taken sick with a hemorrhage of the lungs but still he fought bravely on saying he would soon be all right, but the death angel came to call him to his reward. He had reached the age of 19 years, 9 months and 10 days. Arthur was of a genial disposition, agreeable and companionable, and made many friends while attending the Rock Valley high school, who all mourn his death.

His mother passed away five years ago. He leaves to mourn, his father, three brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Monday morning at nine o’clock conducted by Rev. L. F. Focht. Interment was made in Valley View cemetery in the family burial plot.
