From the Rock Valley Bee, April 12, 1929:

Rock Valley relatives received messages the first of this week advising them of the death of Dr. F. A. Bonthuis. Mr. Bonthuis is a son-in-law of Mrs. P. Mulder, of Rock Valley, and has other relatives in this vicinity. He also leaves his wife, formerly Miss Kate Mulder of Rock Valley. The family reside at Pasadena, Calif. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of many friends here.

DEATH OF DR. F. A. BONTHUIS

The following article taken from a Pasadena paper will be of interest to many readers of the Bee:

Funeral services for Dr. Fredrick A. Bonthuis, senior attending physician at Los Angeles General Hospital, who died Saturday, April 9th, at Pasadena Hospital, Pasadena, California. Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 on Tuesday in the Ives and Warren Company Chapel.

During his six years’ residence in this city, he had won a reputation for accurate diagnoses, it is said. Besides his work at the General Hospital he had been affiliated with Pasadena Hospital and California Lutheran Hospital in Los Angeles.

He was a graduate of Northwestern University medical school of Chicago and in 1913 took post graduate work in Berlin and Vienna, receiving diplomas from the Polyclinic in Vienna as well as the University of Vienna. During the World War, he served as captain in the Medical Corps. He was instructor of cardiology at Mineola Field, New York.

Dr. Bonthuis leaves a widow, Mrs. Kathryn M. Bonthuis of 724 North Holliston Avenue; a sister, Mrs. Ralph Dykstra; and a brother, Dr. Andrew Bonthuis of 1151 East Howard Street, a physician.

Bonthuis M.D., 1873 Chicago – 1929 Pasadena.” It has him born 23 April 1874 in Chicago, died 6 April 1929 in Pasadena, buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, California. Spouse Kathryn Mulder Bonthuis (1884-1956).
