From the Sioux County Index (Hull), March 29, 1929:

MRS. VAN DER LAAN DIES

Friends and neighbors alike were surprised and shocked, last Saturday afternoon, to hear of the death of Mrs. Chris. VanderLaan at her home in the west part of Hull, following a short illness of heart trouble. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the First Reformed church, Rev. Douwstra officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in Hope Cemetery.

Mrs. VanderLaan was a wonderful neighbor and friend and a loving wife and mother and has left a vacant place in the hearts of all. The Index wishes to join in the sincere sympathy being extended to the surviving husband and son.
