Dr. Emmett T. Murphy died on Tuesday, April 13th, at his home at 5737 13th St., N.W., Washington, D. C., after a lingering illness. . Dr Murphy was a resident of the District of Columbia for over 40 years and for a period of 12 years practiced chiropractic there. From 1938 until last year, he served as the Washington representative for the National Chiropractic association and the American Chiropractic association. During his lifetime, Dr Murphy was the recipient of a Doctor of Humanities Degree from the Los Angeles, Calif, College of Chiropractic, and he was a Fellow in the Fellowship of the International College of Chiropractic. He was presented the Certificate of Special Instruction from the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago. In 1934 he was appointed “Kentucky Colonel", by Governor Ruby Lafoon and he was an honorary captain in the South Dakota Motor Patrol. He served as a member of the inaugural committees for Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy. Dr Murphy was born in Rock Valley July 6, 1902, the son of Lawrence and Mary Langen Murphy. He was graduated from St. Mary's high school in Rock Valley, attended Loras college, Dubuque, and was graduated from the Palmer Chiropractic college, Davenport. The deceased was married in 1936 to Frances Whitcomb.
He leaves his widow and one son, James E. Murphy, 803 Venice Drive, Silver Springs, Md., and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister and is survived by four brothers; Leo of Harrisburg, S. D.; George of Worthing, S. D.; Francis, Yankton, S. D.; and Earl F. of Sioux City. Dr Murphy was a member of the Nativity Catholic church and a member of the Holy Name society. A funeral mass was said for him at Nativity Catholic church, Monday. April 19 at 10 a.m. and interment was at Cedar Hill cemetery, Washington D.C.
