AGED CITIZEN PASSES AWAY--A. M. MCDANIEL, DEAD AFTER PNEUMONIA ATTACK--WAS RESIDENT OF THIS VICINITY FOR FORTY YEARS--SURVIVED BY WIFE AND THREE SONS

Amasa M. McDaniel, a resident of Virginia Township and Hawarden for the last forty years, died Wednesday morning after a week’s illness with pneumonia. The disease itself was kept from filling his lungs, but it affected his heart. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 o’clock at the Congregational Church, Reverend William F. Vance officiating. Burial will be made in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Amasa Marcellus McDaniel was born in West Virginia October 14, 1847, and died February 22, 1922, at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 8 days. He moved to Ohio with his parents when a child and on July 27, 1871, he was united in marriage with Sarah Jane Smith. Four children were born to them, one son, Orlando dying in infancy. He moved west with his family in the spring of 1882, settling on a farm in Virginia Township northwest of Hawarden. He left the farm 25 years ago and moved to Hawarden, making his home in this city since that time. For a number of years he served as night watchman in this city.

The deceased is the last of eleven brothers and sisters. Hw was a quiet, unassuming nature and leaves a large number of old friends who deeply mourn his passing. He is survived by his wife and three sons: N. A. McDaniel of Marshall, Minnesota, who was at his father’s bedside when the end came; E. A. McDaniel of Heela, South Dakota; and L. L. McDaniel of Triumph, Minnesota. He is also survived by one grandson, Evert Athan McDaniel.

The bereaved wife and sons have the sympathy of the entire community in their loss.
