DIES SATURDAY AT MITCHELL--DEATH CLAIMS MRS. MERVIN MCDANIEL OF SPENCER--WAS DAUGHTER OF MR. AND MRS. HARRY HILTON AND LIVED MOST OF HER LIFE IN HAWARDEN

Mrs. Mervin L. McDaniel of Spencer, South Dakota, a former Hawarden girl, passed away Saturday evening in the Methodist Hospital in Mitchell, death being due to infection in the blood stream. She had not enjoyed good health for the past several months and when the seriousness of her ailment was discovered she was removed to the hospital but she was unable to overcome the ravages of the infection.

Funeral services were held in Spencer Monday afternoon and the body arrived in Hawarden on the early morning train Tuesday. Funeral services were also held at the Methodist Church here at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon with Reverend Robert F. Chapler in charge. Burial was made in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Bessie Marie Hilton, only child of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hilton, was born in Hawarden January 11, 1902, and passed away July 23, 1938, after one day in the Methodist Hospital in Mitchell, South Dakota, just as the sun was sinking in the west. She spent her early girlhood days in Hawarden, attending the grade and high school and after graduation from the Eastern Normal at Madison, South Dakota, she engaged in the teaching profession. She taught two terms in rural schools near Hawarden and then several years in the schools at Spencer and Huron, South Dakota.

She united with the Methodist Church in Hawarden in her early girlhood and was a devoted Christian, leading a most exemplary Christian life. Her happiest moments were when she was helping with her Master’s work. During her life in the Spencer community she was a teacher of the ladies class of the Spencer Christian Church and was a faithful worker in all phases of the church. She was united in marriage with Mervin L. McDaniel June 26, 1935, at Hawarden after she lived on the farm near Spencer. She was a most devoted daughter and wife and the most cherished dream of the home contributed to her death which for a time will separate a most happy union. She leaves to mourn her departure, her devoted husband, Mervin L. McDaniel, and her find parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hilton of Hawarden and also other close relatives and a host of friends.
