MRS. JOHN G. DE VRIES PASSED AWAY

Mrs. J. G. De Vries passed away at her home in Rock Valley following an illness of about a year and a half, aged sixty-two years, eleven months and twenty days.

Mrs. De Vries was born in the Netherlands March 12, 1866, where she spent her early life and grew to womanhood. She came to this country in 1886 and has lived in Rock Valley and vicinity since that time. She was united in marriage with John G. De Vries, February 20, 1890. To this union, eight children were born four of whom died in infancy. After her marriage, the family lived on a farm north of Rock Valley, until eleven years ago, when they retired from farm work and moved to Rock Valley, where she has since resided.

She leaves her husband and four children, Mrs. Ed. Van Maanen, Mrs. A. Van Maanen and Charles De Vries of Rock Valley vicinity, and Herbert De Vries of Corsica, S.D., and twelve grand children.

Mrs. De Vries was a member of the Christian Reformed church in Rock Valley. She was a woman who was highly respected and esteemed by all who knew her.

Funeral services were held in the Christian Reformed church in Rock Valley Wednesday afternoon and the remains taken to the Valley View Cemetery. The bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of many friends in this vicinity.

Her death certificate has her as Mrs. Willemina De Vries, born March 12, 1867 in Holland; parents Jesse[?] Ruich and Hattie Van Der Lei; died at 3:45 p.m. March 2, 1929; cause, chronic myocarditis, duration several months.

FindaGrave.com includes a photo of her joint headstone with her husband; it shows her name spelled Wilhelmiena, and birth year 1866. Full name Wilhelmiena “Willemke” Ruisch De Vries. It says she was born in Ee, Dongeradeel Municipality, Friesland, Netherlands; husband John G. De Vries (1863-1955); children Hattie Van Maanen (1892-1982), Jennie Van Maanen (1894-1988), Charley De Vries (1896-1979), and Herbert Gerben De Vries (1905-1992).
