Mrs. Matthew McCabe, one of Boyden’s earliest pioneers, died March 28, 1934, at the age of 81 years, 1 month and 14 days, in Sheldon. Services were held at the St. Patrick’s Church, Sheldon, where Reverend Father McCormick officiated. Interment was made at the Catholic Cemetery near Hull.

Hannah Weir was born on February 14, 1853, in Syracuse, New York, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Weir.

In the year 1870 she was married at Fountain, Minnesota to Matthew McCabe, who preceded her in death on November 13, 1925. Nine children were born to this union, four surviving their parents.

Following their marriage, in 1871, they moved to Sioux County and homesteaded 80 acres in Sheridan Township.

Mrs. McCabe is survived by four children, Mrs. P.L. Curtis of Hull, Mrs. Michael Gossen of Rock Rapids, Mrs. Frank Buren of Sheldon and Matthew McCabe Jr. of Boyden, who still farms the homestead, and two adopted sons, Matthew and Arthur Weir, nephews of the deceased. Arthur Weir had been making his home with Mrs. McCabe in Sheldon. Survivors also include a brother, Ed Weir of Hull.
