H.J. MCANINCH, RESIDENT HERE 68 YEARS, DIES

Henry James McAninch, 78, a resident of Hawarden and vicinity nearly 68 years, died unexpectedly last Thursday at his home following a heart attack.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 Monday afternoon at the Associated Church with Reverend John G. Thorns officiating. James Squier with Mrs. Hal Shoemaker as accompanist sang “In the Garden” and “Beyond the Sunset.” Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home.

A son of Peter and Rosa (Hills) McAninch, he was born March 22, 1877, near Nashville, Jackson County, Iowa. When a small child he lived at Radcliffe, Iowa. He moved to Sioux County in 1888 and lived in this community continuously since then.

On April 16, 1902, he married Mary Christensen and to this union three daughters were born. Mr. and Mrs. McAninch recently celebrated their 53rd Wedding Anniversary.

He was converted at an early age and was a member of the Associated Churches of Hawarden. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by the widow, Mary: two daughters, Mrs. Herbert Bergdale of Alcester and Mrs. Harold Bergdale of Augusta, Georgia; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Nettie Younie of Hawarden and one brother, Sherman McAninch of Hawarden. One daughter, Mrs. Russell Patrick, preceded him in death in 1948.
