From the Alton Democrat, June 29, 1928, Boyden news:

James Grooters of Greenleafton, Minn., arrived Sunday evening, being called home by the serious condition of his mother, Mrs. Mary Grooters, who has been sinking for several days.

From the Alton Democrat, July 6, 1928, Boyden news:

Friends of Mrs. Mary Grooters will regret to learn of her death Wednesday morning, following an illness of many weeks. She had passed the age of 72 years and leaves many true friends to grieve over her going. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, Rev. Colenbrander officiating and the remains were taken to Holland, Mich., for interment, where she will rest with others of her family. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Grooters accompanied the body to its last resting place.

From De Volksvriend, July 5, 1928, Boyden news:

Na een langdurig maar zeer geduldig gedragen lijden overleed Mrs. B. J. Grooters in den ouderdom van ruim 72 jaren. De begrafenis had platts Donderdag n.m. vanult de Ger. kerk inder leidig van Dr. Colenbrander, en het stoffelijk overschot werd op haar eigen verzoek begraven te Holland, Mich.

TRANSLATION

After long but very patient suffering, Mrs. B. J. Grooters died at the age of more than 72 years. The funeral took place on Thursday afternoon from the Reformed church, conducted by Dr. Colenbrander, and the mortal remains were buried at her own request in Holland, Mich.

Her death certificate has Mrs. Marie Grooters, of Boyden, widowed (no husband’s name given); born Nov. 24, 1855 in Michigan; father Walter Van Der Haar, born in Holland; mother unknown to the informant, Mrs. Albert Slothouber; died at 4 a.m. June 27, 1928; cause, nephritis and pyelitis, duration 4 months 13 days.

FiindaGrave.com has Mrs. Mary Grooters, birth unknown, death 1928, burial Pilgrim Home Cemetery (also known as Holland Township Cemetery), Holland, Ottawa County, Michigan. No additional information. The only other Grooters listed for this cemetery is an infant, birth and death dates unknown. Several Vanderhaars are listed.

The obituary of Berend Jans Grooters, 1848-1916 (posted separately) says that in 1902, following the death of his first wife, he married Mrs. Smenger of Holland, Michigan. The Ottawa County, Michigan, marriage register on Ancestry.com has an entry for Berend J. Grooters, age 54, of Sioux County, Iowa, and Mrs. Mary Smeege[?], age 46, of Holland, Michigan (nee Mary Van Der Hee[?]), marrying September 18, 1902, in Holland, Mich.

The baptismal register for Holland, Michigan on Ancestry.com has Maria, parents Wolter Van der Haar and Hendrikje de Weerd, born 24 Nov 1855, baptized 19 March 1856.

Mrs. Slothouber was a daughter of Berend Jans Grooters by his first wife.
