Margaret M. Lutjens (Martha M. Lutjens) daughter of John Lutjens and Marie Nintzel, was born August 13, 1878 in Sheridan Township, Sioux County, Iowa. She was baptized into the Christian faith on November 12, 1876 by Pastor B. Marr. She later gave testimony of that faith at her confirmation service, conducted on April 10, 1892 by Pastor W. Baetke.

She lived on a farm with her parents north of Boyden. In 1921 they moved to Boyden. For many years she faithfully took care of her parents due to physical inabilities. After the death of her parents she moved to Sheldon in 1948 where she resided the remainder of her life.

Three weeks ago last Thursday while visiting her sister at Magnolia, Minnesota she suffered a stroke and was taken to the hospital at Rock Rapids, Iowa, where she passed away last Friday evening.

She reached the age of 76 years, 2 months and 12 days. Left to mourn her death are her brother, John at Slayton, Minnesota; five sisters: Mrs. Anna Sohl at Sheldon; Bertha, Mrs. Herman Schoenemann, Magnolia, Minnesota; Emma, Mrs. John Tiedemann, Rock Rapids; Minnie, Mrs. Carl Stueven and Marie; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Miss Margaretha Lutjens, 76, were held at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday in the J.B. Tiedemann home in Rock Rapids and at 2:30 P.M. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church near Boyden, Burial was in the St. John’s Cemetery there. The Reverend H. Knolph officiated.

Pallbearers were Berend Tiedemann, Ferdinard Tiedemann, Fred Sohl, Arthur Stueven, Henry Schoeneman and Louie Nichaus.
