From the Sioux County Index (Hull), March 23, 1928:

Dr. N. G. O. Coad, formerly of Hull, a prominent business and professional man and politician of Northwest Iowa, for forty years, died at his home at San Diego, California, March 1st, 1928.

Dr. Coad came to Sioux County in 1878, shortly after his graduation from the University of Michigan, and in the same year started the Coad Drug Store and the practice of medicine. In 1890 he established his independent oil business, the products of which were known far and wide in the early days. He was also one of the leading politicians of this section of the state and held prominent positions such as National and State Democratic Committeeman, Mayor of the Town of Hull and numerous minor offices. He left Hull a few years ago to spend his declining years on the Pacific Coast.

N. G. O. Coad was born at Mineral Point, Wisconsin, in 1850 being a little over seventy-eight years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife and one son, W. A. Coad, of LeMars, Iowa, the present owner of the Coad’s Drug Store here.

Many are the interesting stories that could be told of the experiences of this pioneer: His struggles to get his start here; The hardships endured during the many blizzards of early history; His independent fight against the Oil Monopolies; His political career, Etc., Etc.
