VANBRUGGEN, NORDER, HEEMSTRA

From the Sioux County Index (Hull), March 30, 1928:

Jacob VanBruggen, one of the respected old people of this vicinity, passed away at his home Monday afternoon. He had been ill only a short time.

Mr. VanBruggen was born December 6, 1848, at Noordhorn, Province of Groningen, Netherlands, being at the time of his death in his eightieth year. His occupation was that of Janitor, having satisfactorily filled that position for eleven years in the Christian Schools and for eight years at the First Reformed Church.

He leaves a widow, his second wife, one daughter, Mrs. J. VanZyl, of Grand Rapids, and one son, Mr. J. VanBruggen, of Amsterdam, Netherlands, to mourn his departure.

The funeral was held Thursday, at one o’clock at the home and one-thirty at the local First Reformed church.

His death certificate adds that he was 22 years in the United States and 18 years at Hull; parents Jacob and Anje Van Bruggen; died at Hull at 2 p.m. March 26, 1928, of a brain tumor, duration 2-1/2 months.

The Sioux County marriage register for 1918-1919 shows Jacob J. Van Bruggen, age 70, residence Hull, a laborer, born in the Netherlands, parents Jacob S. Van Bruggen and Anje Van Bruggen, marrying Mrs. Agnes Norder (nee Agnes Heemstra), age 60, residence Grand Rapids, Mich., in Hull on September 19, 1918.
