From the Rock Valley Bee, January 20, 1928:

Mrs. Jake DeBoer Passed Away

Mrs. Jake De Boer passed away suddenly at her home near Carmel Saturday evening at 8:30 o’clock, aged forty-one years and nine months.

Mrs. De Boer was born in the Netherlands. At five years of age she came with her parents to this country where she resided until the time of her death. She was united in marriage October 1, 1907, to Jake De Boer. She leaves her husband and eleven children, one of whom, a baby girl, was born just before her mother passed away.

Mrs. De Boer was a woman who was highly esteemed by all who knew her, and had many friends, and her sudden passing away is a great shock to her bereaved husband and children who are left to mourn. The many friends of the family extend heartfelt sympathy to them in their time of sorrow.

Funeral services were held in the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley Wednesday afternoon. The services were largely attended by sympathizing friends who in this way endeavored to express the esteem and sympathy they felt for those who are left to mourn.
