Mr. John G. Raak for Brooking SD was in Sioux Center Monday for the funeral of his mother Mrs. P. Hooiveld from Orange City.

Saturday the old mother, the widow of P. Hooiveld died. She was born 30 March 1831 in Groningen Netherlands and had reached the age of 93 years. She came to Amerika and lived at Holland Mich., and Grand Haven MI. She was married to Gerrit Raak and they had two children Jerry and John Raak of Brooking SD. There were three other children. In 1871 they came to Sioux county IA, and her husband died. She then married P. Hooiveld. She was survived by a brother Gerrit Winter of Holland MI.

Note: From a report on ancestry.com (by others) Geert ‘Gerrit’ Raak born 12 Apr 1825 Rouveen Staphorst OV. Neth died 1874 Orange City IA. Married Eyke Ida Winter 1831-1924 in 1856 at Holland MI. She was born 1831 Neth., daughter of Jurrien Peter Winter and Reena Aries Van Weerden. They had children Marten Raak 1858-1909, Rena Raak 1859-1918, Jerry Raak 1864-1935 and Geert Raak 1867-1900.
