STRUCK BY CAR

Lucile Jean Mulder, two year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mulder, of Hospers, was instantly killed, at Sheldon, Wednesday evening, August 18th, shortly after eight o’clock, when she was struck by an automobile driven by Ted Blessing. The accident took place on Ninth street between the Lyric theatre and the Candy Kitchen, the child being apparently struck by the fender which caught her clothing and threw her to the street. The force of the blow as her head struck the pavement caused instant death.

Those who saw the accident say that the car was traveling about ten or twelve miles per hour, when the little girl darted across the street between the cars parked on the north side of the street, directly in front of the car which was unable to stop in time. Mr. Mulder was standing in front of the Candy Kitchen and the little girl suddenly left her mother who was near the Lyric, carrying the other child, a baby, and started to run across the street to her father.

The child was taken to the Cram Hospital but it was seen at once that the injuries were fatal. The inquest held, exonerated Mr. Blessing from all blame.

Mr. Mulder is a brother of Mrs. Wm. Raman, of this place. The funeral was held Saturday, at the home and church, at Hospers, Mr. and Mrs. Ramen being in attendance. Much sympathy is felt here for the bereaved relatives.

Her death certificate gives her death as 8:30 p.m. August 17, 1927, and adds her parents’ full names, Charles A. Mulder and Jennie Salsma, both born in Iowa.
