From the Sioux County Index (Hull), July 15, 1927:

KILLED BY HORSE

Arie Steenhoven, of south east of Boyden, was brought to the Hull Hospital, last week Thursday evening, suffering from concussions of the brain. It is supposed that he had been kicked in the head by a horse, as he was found by his wife and children, lying in that condition in the barn back of a four-horse team with which he had been working. The horses had been Fed and three of them had been unharnessed. An operation to relieve the pressure was of no avail and he died Monday morning.

Mr. Steenhoven was fifty-four and one-half years old and is survived by his wife and four children.

The funeral was held Thursday, at Boyden, conducted by Rev. G. H. Douwstra, of Hull. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved relatives, as the Steenhovens were well known hereabouts.

From the Alton Democrat, July 15, 1927, Boyden news:

Arie Steenhoven, living southeast of Boyden, was kicked by a horse which he was unharnessing Thursday evening of last week. Some of the family heard a commotion in the barn and upon investigation found Mr. Steenhoven lying unconscious from a wound in the head. A physician was summoned and it was decided that it would be necessary to operate as the skull was crushed. He was taken to Hull, where the operation was performed Saturday afternoon, but little hope was held for his recovery, and the end came early Monday morning, without his regaining consciousness. He is survived by his wife and four children and one sister, Mrs. John Struyk of Melvin, besides other relatives. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Reformed church of Boyden.
