Mr. Wayne Eason, age 90, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2018, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, January 31, at 11:00am, at the Alton Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Harlan De Jong will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Nassau Township Cemetery, near Alton. There will be a family prayer service on Wednesday, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Tuesday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home.

Wayne Freriks was born on February 16, 1927, on the family farm outside of Carnes, the son of Oscar and Susan (Freriks) Eason. He was raised at Carnes and graduated from the Alton High School. He then served in the United States Army during World War II.

On January 7, 1951, he married Betty Jean Gorrell in San Diego, California. They made their home on a farm by Alton. In 2000, they retired into Orange City. In later years, he moved to the Le Mars Good Samaritan Society, and in December of 2017, he joined his wife at Prairie Ridge.

Mr. Eason was a lifelong member of the Alton Presbyterian Church, where he served on the Session. He also belonged to the Floyd American Legion Post in Alton.

He enjoyed doing field work in his John Deere tractors and was a conservation advocate and a good mechanic. He liked woodworking, square dancing with Betty, listening to audio recordings of books, and eating chocolate stars.

Survivors include his wife of more than 67 years; his son, Ernest Eason, of Orange City; his daughter and her husband, Delia “Dee-Dee” and Hampton McAda, of Yorktown, Texas; four grandchildren, Erica, and her husband, Scott De Jong, of Alton; Grant Eason, and his fiancé, Sherri Bolton, of Le Mars; Wayne McAda, of Kenedy, Texas; and Spenser McAda, of San Antonio, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Brooke, and Jenna De Jong; and a sister-in-law, Bertha Eason, of Orange City.

He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Dawn Eason; a great-granddaughter, Allie Rae De Jong; two brothers, George Eason and Norman Eason; and a sister, Mildred Moorhead.
