Mr. Marion Hagens, age 72, of Orange City, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a memorial service on February 5, at 11:00am, at the Newkirk Reformed Church in rural Hospers. The Rev. David Powers will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a family prayer service on February 5, at 9:45am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 4:00pm on February 4, with the family present from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, at the funeral home.

Marion Allen was born on July 10, 1945, in Orange City, the son of Lammert and Hermina (Meyer) Hagens. He was raised near Newkirk and attended the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs.

He lived on his family’s farm northwest of Newkirk, where he did upholstery work. In 2007, he moved to the Heritage House Nursing Home, in Orange City and later transferred to Prairie Ridge when that opened.

He was a member of the Newkirk Reformed Church. He enjoyed reading and playing games.

Survivors include two sisters, Arta, and her husband, Lorace Gregg, of Cherokee; and Henrietta Hofland, of Orange City; and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Hagens; two brothers-in-law, Jim Hofland and Peter Bakker; and a nephew, Herman Hofland.
