Mr. John Grevengoed, age 82, of Hull, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2018, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

There will be a funeral service on Friday, January 26, 2018, at 1:30pm, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Loren Kotman will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Thursday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the church. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

John Arnold was born on April 3, 1935, at Rock Valley, the son of Gerrit and Winnie (Van Oort) Grevengoed. He was raised in the Middleburg area.

On January 22, 1954, he married Wilma G. Pals at Hull. They farmed in northwest Iowa, living at Sanborn for about ten years. In 1972, they settled on a farm at Hull. They moved into Hull in 1999.

Mr. Grevengoed was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory as a deacon and an elder and taught Sunday school and catechism classes. He also served on the boards of directors of area Christian schools, grain elevators, and rural water systems, and the American Milk Producers, Inc.

He enjoyed tractor rides, traveling, and wintering in Texas for twenty years. He and his wife followed their grandchildren’s activities faithfully.

Survivors include his wife of exactly 64 years; six children and their spouses, Dione and Dennis Visser, of Sioux Center; Galen and Elsie Grevengoed, of Rock Valley; Randy Grevengoed, of Boyden; Cheri and Harlow Bosman, of Sheldon; Mike and Connie Grevengoed, of Hull; and Kristi and Harlan Leusink, of Paynesville, Minnesota; twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Darlene and Charles P. Kroese, of Hull; and two brothers and their wives, Howard and Marilyn Grevengoed, of Hull; and Alvin and Eileen Grevengoed, of Clever, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Grevengoed.

Memorials may be directed to the Hull Christian School and the Western Christian High School in Hull.
