Ireton friends received word Wednesday of the death of Mrs. Harry De Vries, of Denver, Colorado, formerly of Le Mars. She passed away Tuesday afternoon. Funeral services were held at Denver Thursday afternoon.

Carmen Cole De Vries was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Cole, now deceased, formerly of Hawarden. She received her early education in the rural schools near there, moving with her mother to a farm near Alcester, S.D., after the death of her father in June 1918.

From the Ireton Ledger, April 28, 1927, Center and Eagle Township news:

Death of Mrs. Harry De Vries

Funeral services were held Friday at Denver, Colo., for Mrs. Harry De Vries of this vicinity who passed away at Denver Tuesday after a short illness of pneumonia.

Carmen Cole De Vries was born Jan. 20, 1902, on a farm one mile west of Hawarden. Here she received her early education and the family made their home until the death of her father in June, 1918, when they moved to a farm north of Alcester, South Dak. On April 1922 she was united in marriage with Harry De Vries of Center township and they made their home at Rock Rapids for a time, moving to Le Mars later.

Mrs. De Vries did not enjoy good health so last August they moved to Denver, Colo., in the hopes that the climate might prove beneficial. For a time she seemed to improve but a short illness with the flu quickly developed into pneumonia which her weakened physical condition could not withstand and she quietly passed to a better world Tuesday.

One little daughter, Kathleen, came to bless this union, who with the husband and three brothers, Earl, Howard and Forest, survive a loving mother, wife and sister.

[A nearly identical obituary in the Alton Democrat, April 29, supplies her full marriage date, April 22, 1922.]
