RESEARCH NOTES

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Bolster, John Mrs., d. 20 Jun 1905, Hospers Cem Hospers IA (WPA Cem Index).

It appears, however, that the correct surname is probably Balster. The 1900 U.S. census for Summit Township, O’Brien County has John M. Balster, age 56, born in Holland Nov. 1843, married 28 years, a farmer; wife Annie, age 56, born in Holland April 1843, mother of 5 children, all living; son Bert (26), born in Holland March 1874; and son Jacob (16), born in Holland December 1883; all immigrated in 1892; John and Bert are naturalized.

The transcription of information in the 1905 Iowa state census has John M. Balster, age 60, born in Holland, married, residence O’Brien County; and Annie Balster, age 60, born in Holland, married, residence O’Brien County.

See the obituary for John M. Balster, 1844-1927 (posted separately) for additional information.
