Mrs. Roberta “Bert” Boogerd, age 84, of Hull, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2017, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, December 30, at 11:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Kevin Yurk will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. There will be a family prayer service on Saturday, at 10:00am, at the church.

Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the church. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Roberta Elizabeth was born on March 22, 1933 at Hull, the daughter of Rommert and Theodora (Rodenburgh) Vander Werff. She was raised at Hull, where she attended a country school, the Hull Christian School, and the Western Christian High School.

On January 23, 1953, she married James Arvin Boogerd at Hull. They farmed at Hull, where she was a bookkeeper and managed the parts department at the John Deere Implement dealer. She was also a clerk at a local grocery store for 42 years. In addition, the couple were custodians of the First Reformed Church for eleven and a half years.

Mrs. Boogerd was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she led and participated in women’s Bible studies and taught Sunday school and catechism classes.

She enjoyed watching the grandchildren in their activities, traveling with tour groups, having Sunday dinners with her family, solving crossword puzzles, watching the news on television, and following Facebook.

Survivors include her husband of more than 64 years, Jim; a son and his wife, Warren and Elaine Boogerd, of Hull; two daughters, Aletha Stienstra, of Gowrie; and Beth, and her husband, Rick Polacek, of Boyden; seven grandchildren, Jason (Jill) Boogerd, Kevin (Melissa) Boogerd, April Van Rys (friend, Ted Braaksma), Jessica (Dustin) Hector, Nicole (Branden) Lehner, Carlye Polacek, and Cassidy Polacek; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Grace Hartog, of Sanborn; and Theodora “Duck” Lokhorst and Esther Rozeboom, both of Hull; a brother, John Vander Werff, of Sanborn; and two brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law, John (Norma) Boogerd, Agnes (John) Scholten, and Janice Boogerd, all of Hull; Harriet (Vern) Haagsma, of Sioux Center; and Wally (Bev) Boogerd, of Orange City.

In addition to her parents and parents-in-law, Walter and Christina Boogerd, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Pete Stienstra; two brothers, Bill (Gert) Vander Werff and Cornie (Mae and Stephena) Vander Werff; three sisters, Tina (Bill) Pollema, Ella (Albert) Juffer, and Wilma (Jim Jansma and Henry) De Wild; and four brothers-in-law, Cornie Hartog, Pete Lokhorst, Dick Rozeboom, and Harold Boogerd.

Memorials may be directed to the church building fund.
